Guide Book

York Castle Museum guide book

Our new York Castle Museum guide book is a handy, hardback, full-colour publication.

It highlights interesting and unusual objects from around the museum, which reflect the huge variety of everyday items and one-off treasures on show.

The book costs £4 a copy and makes a delightful souvenir.

Talking Textiles – Follow the Thread Trail

Textiles in the Victorian parlour

This trail is designed for visitors with a particular interest in costume and textiles and highlights examples throughout the museum.

Download it here before your visit.

Visit our Costume and Textiles collection page for more information.

Families

Our Castle Challenger guide book

Our Castle Challenger activity guidebook is aimed at visitors aged six and up. It works like a game and visitors can score points as they tour the museum either on their own or against family or friends. It costs £2.50 and is available from the Admissions desk.

Backpacks are available to take younger children round the museum, as pushchairs cannot be taken around due to fire regulations.

There are baby changing facilities in the disabled toilet and the ladies’ toilets close to the shop and also in the ladies’ toilets off the Victorian Street.

The cafe has highchairs and staff are happy to warm up baby food for you. Picnics can be eaten in the outdoor Exercise Yard, which is off the Ground Floor close to the York Castle Prison area.

Dogs

We welcome Guide Dogs – no other animals are allowed entry to the museum.

Photography

Photography for personal use is allowed around the museum, but the use of tripods may be restricted when busy.

If you would like to request permission to publish images of our collection, use them commercially or enquire about copyright click here.
